I am a hopeless romantic, what can I say?
So, when Valentine’s Day rolls around, I go all out. I’ve been known to send huge bouquets of balloons to my husband’s work if we can’t spend the day together.
Yep, I’m a sap.
Even though my husband and I have been together for years, the romance and that butterfly feeling never goes away. It takes a bit of work, a lot of thoughtfulness and some chocolate never hurts.
So, if you are stuck on ideas of what to do with your sweetie this Valentine’s Day, look no further!
Top 5 Things to Do on Valentine’s Day:
1. Make Something for Your Sweetheart.
I know that it seems a bit juvenile and something you would do in high school while writing your lover’s name and circling it with a million hearts. But, it takes the right type of hand made gift that will take their breath away and that will really make them appreciate the effort and time that you put into it.
The perfect gift that I know anyone would love is a scrapbook/photobook with pictures of you as a couple, places you’ve been and unforgettable memories that you made together. Made especially for them and put officially in print in a beautiful book to keep for always.
Our very own Elephoto makes fabulous hand made Valentine themed photobooks that they are sure to treasure forever.
2. Give Them Coupons.
Now, some of you may find this to be cheesy and you know what?
It probably is but, I’ll tell you one thing.
Guys (especially, but girls too) sure love using them when THEY want to. So whether it’s a coupon for a free foot rub or full-body massage down to whatever your wildest imaginations can conjure.
Have fun and believe me, he’ll love the fact that he has control! And ladies, we can use those coupons for spa-days and them washing a sink full of dishes.
Like I said, win-win.
3. Take Your Valentine Out On a Night On the Town. Or Stay In.
It depends on who really plans Valentine’s Day in your household. I usually alternate and when it’s my turn, I take him out to his favorite restaurant. Get him steak and beer and whatever he likes. Same would work for that special woman in your life, take her out to her favorite restaurant and get her a glass (or 3) of her favorite wine.
For a lower key evening, cook him his favorite dish at home with lots of candlelight, champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries. Or just relax in your favorite jammies, order a heart-shaped pizza, play video games and enjoy one another.
To make it extra special, re-enact your first date. Remember the details and re-capture that feeling you had on that special day. Afterwards, go out and do something fun and active together. Go skating or something you both haven’t tried. Maybe a spa day, a day of swimming or a trip in the hot tub can jump start a romantic evening.
Valentine’s Day is a perfect time to look into booking couple’s treatments at a spa and can get you in the mood!
5. Make it a weekender.
If you two don’t have kids yet and if it’s within your means, book a ritzy hotel. Whether it’s in town or out of town, you decide. If you do have kids and can get a sitter for the weekend, go all out.
You deserve it and it can do wonders for your relationship.
If you like to play the odds, choose a fancy room at a casino and try to win some cash! After some responsible gambling, go to the spa and then a fancy dinner.
For a lower key getaway, opt for a cozy and quaint bed and breakfast.
Anything that gets you out of the day to day norm.
Get primped up, indulge in a nice dinner, top it off with dessert, wine or champagne and even a night of dancing. Return to your room which you should have previously decorated with rose petals, candles and iced champagne waiting for a night that’s just between you two.
Most importantly, whether you paint the town together or stay at home in your jammies. Or if you order Chinese and watch your favorite movies.
As long as you are together and enjoying each other’s company, you’re winning.
After all, it’s the day of love and friendship.
Top 5 Things to Do with Your Kids on Valentine’s Day:
1. Give them your heart.
Start off their day with heart-shaped pancakes, add a little red dye and make them pink! If you want to stay away from artificial dyes opt for normal heart shaped pancakes and top them off with fresh strawberries and a strawberry-banana smoothie!
2. Get Crafty!
Make Valentine’s Day cards for your little Valentine! Kids love working with glue, stickers, cutting and pasting and SPARKLES. Having pre-cut cards that you cut out earlier helps and they can just let their creativeity flow! Print out some family photos from your computer and add them to the cards. You can also make magnets for the fridge, the possibilities are endless.
3. Make it a movie night!
Pop that popcorn, add some butter, get your favorite jammies and get ready for a love-inspired movie marathon. Kid-friendly of course! Animated films about Princes’ and Princesses never disappoint.
4. Make them a Heart-y Dinner.
Another favorite activity to do with your kids is making pizza.
They. Love. It.
Pre-cut and prep before hand so that you only have to set up the little work stations for them. Cut out the pepperoni or ham into heart shapes using a cookie cutter, take out their favorite toppings and let them go to town.
5. Make their day SWEET.
This is where you bust out the treat bag! Ones that are full of their favorite chocolate, a Valentine inspired plushie and a card just for them. You can use the card that you made earlier with them.
Valentine’s Day is a day of indulgence and treats and you can celebrate it with your kids too! They will always remember it.
Remember it’s not what you give kids, it’s the time you spend with them.
Don’t worry parents, they will probably crash after all those treats leaving you the evening to enjoy each other’s company!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
